A little bit of background
A website and a book in progress by New Zealander, Melissa Davies.
"Having had the benefit of incredible mentors, family, friends and networks, I could see that young women were often struggling to find answers to the same questions I had as I worked through my career. Careering attempts to answer some of those questions, give women tools to manage their career, and showcase a diverse range of successful women to show that success doesn't always mean a top job, or more money - success is what you say it is!"
Melissa's own values are reflected in Careering with an insistence on diversity and inclusion, making sure language is neutral and inclusive, and where possible (and as our competency and understanding grows) using a kaupapa Maori approach, including Te Reo and making sure imagery reflects the real Aotearoa - women of all sizes, shapes, colours, religious beliefs, ethnicities, sexual orientation and ability. This has been challenging though - most images showcase skinny, light skinned women and we call BS on that! If we get it wrong, we want to know - this is an ongoing and concerted effort to be inclusive so please shout out if we get it wrong so we can learn and fix it!
Working alongside Melissa and creating cool content is Ruby Grave. After growing up in Dunedin most of her life, Ruby made the move back to her hometown, Christchurch to complete her studies at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School before heading back down south in 2020 to start her tertiary studies. Ruby has a passion for anything business related, picking up as many extra economics papers as possible and starting her own YES (Young Enterprise Scheme) business. Sometimes she can even be found googling how the economy is running, for fun on a Friday night.
Previously we've also had the benefit of the insight and effort from the engaging Kat Malmus. Kat is originally from Germany with some tales of travels, and a passion for the hospitality sector, creating awesome food herself and her day job leading Customer Success lead at the Kiwi high-tech startup Aider.
